WHAT IS AAOD LEGACY FUND?

Legacy, or endowment, funds underpin the financial sustainability of many of the world's great museum, art and learning institutions. AAOD Legacy Fund is a public ancillary fund established to invite and receive donations and bequests from members of the public. Launched in 2015, donations to the Fund are building an investment portfolio that will, firstly, provide ongoing and permanent income for the general operations of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum and also support new capital projects and replacement of capital assets. By donating to AAOD Legacy Fund, your gift is retained for the life of the Fund and interest earned on your contribution will continue to support AAOD and preserve it for future generations.

The Trustee for the Fund is AAOD Legacy Fund Limited, a public company limited by guarantee.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DONATING TO THE LEGACY FUND AND DONATING TO THE AAOD LTD GIFT FUND?

The main difference is that donations to the Gift Fund are all spent on operational requirements or specific capital projects whereas donations to the Legacy Fund are preserved and, as far as possible, only income earned on the donations will be distributed to AAOD Ltd.

Donations to the Legacy Fund can be for any amount, large or small. Your donation will be added to the money donated to the Fund by other people and organisations and invested in accordance with the Investment Strategy with income distributed annually by the Trustee to AAOD Ltd.

Unless donations are specifically directed to one of AAOD Ltd's current projects, such as the Outdoor Galleries Project, AAOD prefers that donations to be made to the Legacy Fund rather than the Gift Fund.

MAKING PROVISION FOR AAOD IN YOUR WILL

You can support the AAOD Legacy Fund in your will in a number of ways including making a specific monetary bequest, leaving the residue of your estate or a percentage thereof to the Fund, or making the Fund a beneficiary after the death of a surviving partner who benefits from your estate during their lifetime.

Non-cash bequests, eg real estate or other physical property, can also be made in favor of AAOD Legacy Fund. If, however, you are considering a bequest (or donation) of specimens that may be suitable for adding to the Museum collection, please endeavour to discuss this with Executive Chairman David Elliott david.elliott@aaod.com.au before your will is finalised.

Suggested Bequest Clause for the AAOD Legacy Fund

"I devise and bequeath to AAOD Legacy Fund ABN 81 876 017 009 [the sum of $XYZ of my estate / the whole of my estate / the residue of my estate / X (insert description of particular asset)], free of all taxes and other deductions, for its general purposes. The receipt of the Company Secretary or other proper officer of AAOD Legacy Fund will be a sufficient discharge for my Trustee."
