SIEVE-A-DINO EXPERIENCE

Get hands-on with sieving and sorting microfossils every Tuesday – perfect for those short on time and ideal for families.

No experience or special physical ability is needed and children aged 5 and over are welcome. Roll up your sleeves, put on an apron and explore Australia’s prehistoric past with a bit of mud and water along the way. Sessions run for 45 minutes and yes, expect to get a little wet!

The program

In the Fossil Preparation Laboratory, you’ll gain hands-on experience sieving and sorting matrix to uncover microfossils – from tiny teeth and plant material to small bones – while contributing to real scientific research. Learn the techniques palaeontologists use to carefully recover and catalogue these fragments of Australia’s prehistoric past.

  • Adult (18 years and older): $20
  • Child (5 to 17 years): $15
  • Family (up to two adults and four children): $45

WHAT'S INCLUDED   

  1. Fully supervised, hands-on microfossil workshop.
  2. Start times: 9.45am, 11.45am, 1.45pm and 3.45pm.
  3. Duration: 45 minutes per session.
  4. Maximum of eight participants per session.

This is a fun and easy activity, fully supervised by Museum staff, though parental supervision is still required for children.

Aprons and equipment are provided.

As water is involved, you may get wet, so it’s a good idea to wear old clothes and bring a jacket just in case.

This is a fun, educational experience suitable for children aged 5 years and older.
