FIELD SCHOOLS
The Museum offers a limited number of immersive, specimen-based field schools with transfers, catering, expert guidance and hands-on fossil preparation.
The November and December 2026 Field Schools will focus on preparing a remarkable Australian ichthyosaur, nicknamed Tom. Discovered by Tom and Sharon Hurley and acquired by the Museum in 2021, the specimen forms part of a collection of over 15 tonnes of fossils. Participants will contribute to the large-scale preparation of this 100-million-year-old marine reptile, helping uncover its story ahead of its eventual display.
Other field schools will also work on rare and significant specimens from the Museum’s collection.
